Pt. Fermin Lighthouse

Historic Resources Group served as historic preservation consultant for the rehabilitation of Pt. Fermin Lighthouse in San Pedro. Constructed in 1873, it is one of the oldest extant lighthouses on the California coast. Challenges of the project included dry-rot at exterior porch elements and roof brackets, lead-based paint, unreinforced masonry foundations, lack of interior environmental controls, lack of safe and adequate electrical systems for public use and museum use, lack of adequate life and fire safety systems for public use, and lack of accessibility for the disabled. Using the Secretary of the Interior's Standards for Rehabilitation, Historic Resources Group successfully helped the City of Los Angeles adapt the property for use as a lighthouse museum. The project is a recipient of awards from the California Preservation Foundation and the Los Angeles Conservancy.
