Ennis House
The Ennis House, a Mayan-influenced masterpiece designed by Frank Lloyd Wright and completed in 1925, is listed on the National Register of Historic Places as well as both the World Monument Fund's 2006 "Watch List of 100 Most Endangered Sites" and the National Trust for Historic Preservation's "Eleven Most Endangered Places List" for 2005.
The former steward of the property, The Trust for Preservation of Cultural Heritage, along with HRG, had been in the process of stabilizing the property since the 1994 Northridge earthquake, having applied for and received FEMA grants for stabilization and reconstruction. Severe rains hit Southern California in January and February 2005 and further destabilized the house. In early 2005, the governance of the organization was significantly changed to include preservation professionals, economic and financial expertise, and provide ties to affinity groups.
This new organization, called the Ennis House Foundation, has hired HRG to assist in the preparation of grant applications and eventually a Historic Structure Report, which will to provide a reference for the maintenance and conservation of the site.
