Egyptian Theatre
Historic Resources Group was
an integral part of the construction team that
rehabilitated this significant historic theater as the new home of
American
Cinemateque. Built by architects Meyer and Holler in 1922, the theater
is a contributing property in the Hollywood Boulevard National Register
District.
In conjunction with project architects Hodgetts + Fung, Historic Resources
Group's architect Peyton Hall
and principal Christy
McAvoy provided technical assistance and
specifications that resulted in an approach consistent with the
Secretary of the Interior's Standards for Rehabilitation. Compliance with the
Standards assured the project federal funds, timely environmental review, and
consistency with the Hollywood Redevelopment Plan. The rehabilitation of the
Egyptian Theatre was honored by the Los Angeles Conservancy with a 1999
Preservation Award.
Prior to commencing the rehabilitation project, Historic Resources Group prepared a preliminary
Historic
Structure Report for the theater in association with M2A Architects. The
report included a construction history, an assessment of
existing conditions and rehabilitation issues, and the identification of
character-defining features of the building. The report was used as the
foundation for the subsequent rehabilitation of the theater.
