Grauman's Chinese Theatre

Historic Resources Group completed a cultural resources technical report for the rehabilitation of Grauman's Chinese Theatre, a contributor to the Hollywood Boulevard National Register Historic District and arguably the most famous movie theatre in the nation. The report included a contextual and construction history of the theatre, the identification of character-defining features, and an assessment of a seismic retrofit project's potential impacts on significant historic elements. The report was used as the foundation for the current rehabilitation and seismic strengthening of the theatre, as well as for the restoration and replacement of deteriorated furniture and fixtures.

In conjunction with project architects Behr Browers Architects and environmental consultants Chris Joseph and Associates, the firm provided assistance and specifications that resulted in a preservation approach consistent with the Secretary of the Interior’s Standards for Rehabilitation. Completed in 2001, the rehabilitation of the Chinese Theatre assured the preservation of an important national landmark.
