(Morgan Walls, and Clement, architects; 1927)
Built in an era before candy counters

EGYPTIAN THEATER
6712 Hollywood Blvd.
(Meyer & Holler, architects; 1921)
The 1920s fascination with the
discovery of King Tut's tomb resulted in this
Egyptian-style building -- one of very few in the entire
country. The Hollywood "Premiere" originated at
the Egyptian when Sid Grauman began the tradition of
spotlights crisscrossing the night sky, rolling out the
red carpet and celebrities arriving in limousines to
celebrate film openings. The first movie to premiere here
was the 1922 "Robin Hood" starring Douglas
Fairbanks Sr.
