CHRISTIE HOTEL

6724 Hollywood Blvd.

(Arthur R. Kelly, architect; 1922)

The first of Hollywood's luxury hotels, the Christie is designed in the Georgian style of architecture-an unusual style along Hollywood Boulevard.

PIG 'N WHISTLE

6718-20 Hollywood Blvd.

(Morgan Walls, and Clement, architects; 1927)

Built in an era before candy counters in movie theaters became standard, the Pig 'N Whistle restaurant and soda fountain served theater patrons and Boulevard shoppers alike. The detailing on the front marquee includes a dancing, flute-playing pig -- the trademark of the establishment.

EGYPTIAN THEATER

6712 Hollywood Blvd.

(Meyer & Holler, architects; 1921)

The 1920s fascination with the discovery of King Tut's tomb resulted in this Egyptian-style building -- one of very few in the entire country. The Hollywood "Premiere" originated at the Egyptian when Sid Grauman began the tradition of spotlights crisscrossing the night sky, rolling out the red carpet and celebrities arriving in limousines to celebrate film openings. The first movie to premiere here was the 1922 "Robin Hood" starring Douglas Fairbanks Sr.
