At the east wall of the forecourt,
near the theater entrance, monumental heads flank an imposing wood door.
The door leads nowhere, but still has the power to arouse curiosity as to what lies beyond.
The Egyptian Theatre was among the first of many Egyptian Revival style theaters constructed in
the United States in the
early twentieth century. The discovery of King Tutankhamun's tomb in 1922, in particular,
spurred interest in Egyptian culture during this period and ignited the popularity of the
Egyptian Revival style. |
