The Egyptian Theatre was the first true movie palace built in Hollywood, though other
smaller theaters preceeded it. The theater was erected by impresario Sid Grauman, who built the even more
famous Chinese Theatre a decade later. Completed late in 1922, Grauman hired architects Meyer & Holler to
design the structure and the Milwaukee Building Company to build it. Architects
Mendell Meyer and Gabriel
Holler work in Hollywood also includes the First National Bank building at the corner of Hollywood and Highland
Boulevards, the Hollywood Athletic Club on Sunset at Schraeder, and Grauman's Chinese
Theatre (1927).
The architects were principals of the Milwaukee Building Company, as well. |
